Jones found out about axe on web
Geraint Jones
Jones has slipped down the pecking order in the last two months
Geraint Jones insists he has no qualms about finding out he missed out on a World Cup place through the internet.

The Kent wicket-keeper failed to make a provisional 30-man England squad for the event and was told by his wife Jenny, who read the story online.

Chairman of selectors David Graveney apologised to Darren Gough on Thursday for informing the veteran paceman of his exclusion via text message.

But Jones told BBC Sport: "You can't expect a phone call every time."

He added: "It's just the way it happened, that's the way of the world now.

"You don't always get a phone call to tell you you're in so you shouldn't always get one to tell you you're out."

Jones has slipped down the England pecking order after being left out for the last two Tests against Australia and the triangular one-day series.

The 30-year-old paid the price for a poor run of scores with the bat but is determined to use a stint playing grade cricket in Brisbane to rediscover his touch.

"It's what I'm spending the next couple of months here for," he explained.

"I have a season at Kent coming up and have to make sure I'm the fittest and in the best form I can be."
