Paul Collingwood did his best in his first match as captain |
England captain Paul Collingwood said his seam attack would learn from their mistakes after West Indies triumphed in the first Twenty20 international. Collingwood hit 79 off 41 balls in what turned out to be a one-man show.
After most of his bowlers had been hit for around 10 runs an over, he said: "There is a bit of inexperience in there, but you tend to learn.
"Obviously it was frenetic in the field but these boys will adapt and they will be stronger for this experience."
Though the seam attack of James Anderson, Ryan Sidebottom and Stuart Broad failed to produce the goods, England's specialist batsmen - save Collingwood - were just as disappointing.
The next best score among the top seven was provided by Matt Prior's 25, but Collingwood said: "These guys are the best at one-day cricket in England at this time and I will back these guys up.

"Hopefully we will move forward. We are disappointed to lose but we have got another chance tomorrow to square it up."
West Indies captain Chris Gayle was unable to lead with example - he made five and did not bowl - but at least he could toast a victory.
The Jamaican, currently at loggerheads with the West Indies Cricket Board, said: "This is what we needed, to go out there and come out with a victory.
"A lot has happened over this last week. There have been a lot of negatives and we have come up with a positive.
"It was a good track to bat on. I did not get a piece of it but all the batters did well and hopefully we will continue in the same vein tomorrow."
Gayle sprang a surprise by allowing Dwayne Bravo to bowl the last over after it had been announced before the game that the all-rounder would play as a specialist batsman because of injury.
"Obviously we didn't want to risk him, but he came up to me and said because of the [match] situation he wanted it. I have to give credit for doing that," said Gayle.
The tourists eventually won but Gayle admitted he was worried about the result while Collingwood was at the crease.
"With Collingwood's experience, you can't take anything for granted. He has done it in the past for England. I thought they played well - they put up a fight," he added.
