Panesar's star has risen this summer |
England captain Andrew Flintoff says spinners Ashley Giles and Monty Panesar could play in tandem during the Ashes. Panesar and Giles have never played together for England but could in this winter's clash against Australia if the conditions are conducive.
Flintoff said: "It's going to be great having those two there.
"As with a lot of the lads, there's competition for places in the squad which has got to be healthy," added Flintoff at his book launch.
Giles has not played since the second Test against Pakistan last November and has since had two operations on his hip and groin.
Panesar was picked in Giles' absence and has proved to be a bowler of genuine Test quality.

England head to the ICC Champions Trophy in India next week, then to Australia for the Ashes, with the first Test in Brisbane on 23 November.
"Monty has improved a hell of a lot during the summer," Flintoff added.
"I was in the Academy with him a few years ago and since he has played for England he has got better and better and better.
"He's obviously a favourite with the public and Ashley Giles has been a great performer for England over the past few years.
"He's looking very fit, he's bowling again and it's looking good."
