Vaughan could play for Yorkshire again this week |
England have resisted naming a replacement for the injured Ed Joyce but have reiterated captain Michael Vaughan will not be rushed back. Joyce, who dislocated his ankle during Thursday's Twenty20 defeat, will have a further scan this week.
Vaughan is recovering from a knee problem in county cricket and coach Duncan Fletcher said: "It's up to him.
"He is the individual who has got to say whether he's ready to play. We can't say he's ready to play."
Ian Bell replaced Joyce in the side for Saturday's one-day international defeat at Lord's.
And Test regular Alastair Cook is also in the squad ahead of Tuesday's second game in the series at The Oval.
Fletcher hinted last week that Vaughan could play some part in the later stages of the series if he regains confidence in the knee injury, which has kept him off international duty since November.
"We're constantly in touch with Michael and I'll be ringing him again in the next day or so, just as I rang him two days ago," said the England coach.
Yorkshire begin a four-day game on Wednesday against Sussex.
And if Vaughan plays there he will be unlikely to return for England until the fourth one-day international at Old Trafford on 28 June at the very earliest.
