Michael Vaughan believes he is "some way" from being ready for an England comeback despite coming through a four-day game for Yorkshire. Vaughan had "a few aches and pains" after Yorkshire's five-wicket defeat by Hampshire and was rested for Sunday's C&G Trophy game against Durham.
"I know it is hard for people to accept that I am playing for Yorkshire, and not England," he said.
"But I am some way off being at an international standard of fitness."
Vaughan added: "I have been hidden a bit in the field in this (Championship) game and have to make sure that when I come back for England I am 100% fit.
"I am still trying to ease my way into county cricket and it is six months since I was fully fit.
"My body has to get used to twisting and turning and all the other movements you have to do."
Vaughan was forced to return home from the tour to India earlier this year because of knee trouble and he is determined not to rush his rehabilitation.
The England selectors will name a squad on Wednesday for a Twenty20 International and five one-dayers against Sri Lanka.
They may, however, decide to give Vaughan more time in county cricket before considering a recall to the Test side for the four-match series against Pakistan which starts in the middle of next month.
