Simon Jones is working up to full pace in the nets |
Glamorgan pace bowler Simon Jones is confident he will be fully fit for the start of the new season and wants his place back in the England side. The 27-year-old had to withdraw from England's tour to India to have an operation after twisting his left knee.
"It's coming on well. I started bowling off a couple of yards today and I'm sprinting up to full pace," Jones said.
"I want to play for Glamorgan in the first couple of games and prove my fitness, and see where it takes me."
While he earned most plaudits for his performance in last summer's Ashes series win over Australia, Jones is also determined to win a regular place in the one-day side.
"I prefer the longer stuff but I do enjoy playing one-dayers," Jones added.
"These days you've got to become a rounded cricketer and you've got to be able to do both forms of the game, and that's what I'm aiming to do.

"I've started playing for England in the one-dayers and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience against the Aussies last summer in both forms and it just makes you hungry to play more."
Although England fought back to draw the Test series in India, the tourists have struggled in the one-day series.
"The boys have done as well as they can in India: they saved the Test series, in the one-dayers it looks a tough place to play and when India are playing well it's a hard place to win," Jones said.
But Jones knows that he must first concentrate his efforts on performing for Glamorgan if he is to get the England call for this summer's matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
The heavy rain during March has limited preparation time outdoors, but Jones believes that may actually help his county.
"We've spent a lot of time in the gym getting 'beasted' by the physio and I think the boys are looking fitter now than they have done for a while," Jones said.
"Hopefully that will prepare the boys well as well as thay can be for a long season - we've got a strong squad and there's confidence in the camp."
