Glamorgan fast bowler Simon Jones is delighted to be back in the England squad for Thursday's first Test against the West Indies at Lord's. Jones, recovered from a foot injury, is vying with James Anderson to be part of England's pace attack.
But with all-rounder Andrew Flintoff unlikely to be able to bowl because of an ankle spur, Jones and Anderson could both get the nod.
"It's a great feeling to be back in the squad after injury," Jones said.
"If Freddie (Flintoff) is unable to bowl it means extra work for some of us, but I'll enjoy bowling more overs - and so will the rest of the boys - because it gives me more chance of getting more wickets."
Jones turned out for the MCC side that lost narrowly to the West Indies in Arundel last week and felt it helped brush off the remaining rust from his three-week injury lay-off.
"I bowled 25 or 26 overs in the game - my rhythm started to come really good towards the end and I started working some good pace up," Jones said.
"One thing that I did notice was that (West Indies skipper) Brian Lara was in good nick, he did look really good which is a little bit worrying!"
England squad: MP Vaughan (capt), ME Trescothick, AJ Strauss, MA Butcher, GP Thorpe, A Flintoff, GO Jones, RWT Key, AF Giles, SJ Harmison, MJ Hoggard, SP Jones, JM Anderson.
