England paceman Simon Jones is to miss the rest of the Test series against New Zealand with an injured left foot. Jones suffered a stress fracture six years ago and England and Wales Cricket Board medical officer Peter Gregory feared there could be a repeat.
"As a preventative measure, Simon will be rested from the next two Test matches," Gregory said in a statement.
"And his return to cricket will be dependant on the time it takes for his symptoms to heal."
Gregory added: "We are optimistic, however, that with rest and treatment he will be fit for the npower Test series against West Indies later this summer."
Kent seamer Martin Saggers took Jones' place for the second Test at Headingley.
James Anderson was also ruled out of the match with a bruised heel but could return for the third Test, beginning at Trent Bridge next Thursday.
The latest injury is another blow for Jones, who only returned to the Test side in March after 16 months out with a knee injury.
