Tour match, Grace Road: New Zealand 413 & 357-5 dec beat Leicestershire 210 & 232 by 328 runs Vettori claimed the last four Leicestershire wickets |
Spinner Daniel Vettori claimed five wickets as New Zealand completed a 328-run win over Leicestershire - their first on tour in England.
Darren Maddy, who gained three England Test caps in 1999, was the Black Caps' only opposition, hitting 87.
Set 561 to win, the Foxes never looked like batting out the day once John Maunders (54) edged Kyle Mills behind.
Left-armer Vettori took the last four wickets to bowl the home side out for 232 and finish with figures of 5-92.
The last time Vettori took five wickets in an innings was in Perth in December 2001, when he claimed 6-87 against Australia.
Having faced 207 balls hitting 12 fours, Maddy finally edged the spinner to slip trying to make room to cut on the off-side.
Seamer Mills impressed in this second innings, bowling a good line and length and finishing with 3-51 to push his own claims for a place in the Test line up.
The match was a final warm-up for the Kiwis ahead of this week's second Test at Headingley, with the third match of the series the following week.
