Batting at four, Vaughan could concentrate more on captaincy |
Michael Vaughan has come through a fitness test and will play for Yorkshire against Scotland in Edinburgh on Monday in the Totesport League. The England captain missed the first Test at Lord's after twisting a knee, but the injury no longer affects him.
After the match he will join up with the remainder of the England squad, to be announced on Monday, at his home ground of Headingley.
Vaughan may switch from opening duties to take the number four spot.
Following Nasser Hussain's retirement from all forms of cricket on Thursday, a spare spot has appeared in the middle order.
It is unlikely Andrew Strauss, a centurion on debut at Lord's where he opened, will be asked to open.
Most of England's centrally contracted players will see one-day action for their counties before the start of the second Test.
Marcus Trescothick, Nasser Hussain, Simon Jones, Andrew Flintoff, Ashley Giles, Matthew Hoggard and James Anderson have all been cleared to play in weekend C&G Trophy ties.
But pace bowler Steve Harmison has been ordered to take a break and will not appear for Durham.
