Andrew Flintoff was delighted with the patient century he scored as England battled for a draw in the final Test against West Indies. "I have played like that before for Lancashire so I can play that way," said Flintoff, who ended unbeaten on 102 before England followed-on.
"The situation of the match dictated that I had to bat for time and I went out there to try and get my head down.
"I think it's the most balls I've ever faced in an innings."
He said a discussion with coach Duncan Fletcher had got him in the right mindset for the match.
"I've been a bit disappointed with a few of the ways I've got out in this series and I wanted to rectify that," he explained.
"The coach said before the Test that I'm a batting all-rounder, so it was important I scored runs and it's just nice to get some in the situation the match is in."

"It's very difficult when the other side has scored 700-odd and we lost early wickets but I went out there and got my head down and got good support from the lads down the order."
Flintoff's defiance instilled a renewed self-belief in the out-of-form opening pair of Michael Vaughan and Marcus Trescothick, who saw England to 145-0 by stumps on day four.
Flintoff said: "Hopefully we can go out on Wednesday and save the Test - there are 90 overs left and we can win this Test series 3-0.
"Marcus and Michael played really well at the end there and put us in a good position going into the last day."
