Michael Vaughan
Vaughan has hit his highest Test score

Michael Vaughan's 197 was the cornerstone of England's superb first innings effort at Trent Bridge.

Vaughan fell when he drove loosely outside off-stump just as he looked set for a maiden Test double hundred.

England scored at a healthy run rate and begin the fourth day just 16 runs behind India's first innings total of 357.

1901England surprisingly take the offer of bad light with nine overs remaining and India just 16 runs ahead.

1859 Stewart cuts a rare short ball from Harbhajan to the cover.

1853 Vaughan goes next ball driving losely outside off-stump at Agarkar with keeper Patel taking the catch.

1852 Cover drive for four from Vaughan to move within three runs of a brilliant double hundred.

1850 Vaughan uses his feet to force Harbhajan into the off-side to move to 193.

1840 Vaughan goes down on bended knee to crash a boundary off Nehra and bring up the 50 partnership with Stewart.

1838 Vaughan passes his previous highest first class score of 183 with a driven two off Nehra.

1819 Vaughan clips a Nehra leg-stump half volley to the midwicket boundary.

1817 Harbhajan drops short and Stewart clips a four through midwicket. The batsman brings up England's 300 with a driven boundary through long-on.

1803 Stewart picks up his first boundary slicing Khan to third man.

1746 Crawley is caught by Jaffer at gully after trying to turn Khan to midwicket and getting an inside edge onto his pad. England 272-4

1745 Crawley glances Khan to the fine leg boundary.

1721 Vaughan delicately threads a leg glance off Harbhajan between wicketkeeper and leg slip for another boundary.

1717 Crawley latches onto a Nehra slower ball to hit a four through mid-on.

1714 Crawley dispatches a Harbhajan full toss through the covers for his first boundary.

1710 Vaughan reaches 150 with a leg glance off Nehra to pick up his 19th boundary.

1709 Nehra drops short and is smashed high over midwicket for four.

1702 Hussain attempts to sweep Harbhajan but gloves a simple catch gift wicketkeeper Patel his first Test victim. England 228-3

1651 Harbhajan finally finds Butcher's edge and Dravid takes the catch at first slip. England 221-2

1649 Vaughan picks up his 17th boundary with an extra cover drive off Nehra.

1646 Butcher reaches his half century with a mis-timed drive off Nehra that flies over the slip cordon and reaches the third man boundary.

1639 Butcher survives after slashing Nehra to gully where Jaffer scoops up the ball, but the third umpire rules that the it hits the ground first.

1637 Agarkar mis-fields at mid-on to gift Butcher a boundary off Nehra.

1630 Sehwag continues bowling straight after tea.
