Caddick was expected to lead England's attack at Lord's |
Andy Caddick has been ruled out of England's Test series against Zimbabwe. The fast bowler has been struggling with a foot injury and the problem has now been diagnosed as damaged ligaments in the arch of his right foot
He will also miss the second Test at Chester-le-Street, beginning on 5 June.
Caddick has retired from one-day internationals so he will not return for England at least until the start of the five-Test series against South Africa.
"We will re-assess Andy's condition again in the near future," said England and Wales Cricket Board medical officer Dr Peter Gregory.
"But at this stage we anticipate that, with rest, he should be fit and available for the Test series against South Africa."
Meanwhile, key all-rounder Andrew Flintoff is given no more than a "slim chance" of playing at Lord's.
Flintoff missed Lancashire's ongoing Championship match against Essex with a compressed nerve in his right shoulder.
"We will have a clearer idea once we have had an opportunity to assess the results of the tests he underwent earlier [on Friday]," Gregory added.
