Carlisle had been Zimbabwe's best batsman on tour |
Zimbabwe batsman Stuart Carlisle will miss all of the NatWest Series after undergoing surgery on a broken right thumb. Carlisle dislocated his thumb while fielding against Somerset on Tuesday and had an operation onThursday evening.
He will be out of action for upto six weeks.
Carlisle had been in excellent form with the bat, hitting three centuries on the tour of England - including one against Somerset.
Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak said: "Stuart has been our most prolific batsman and is probably playing as well as at any time in his career.
"He was looking forward to carrying that form into the one day series and his loss is a blow to the side and obviously a major disappointment for him personally."
The tourists have decided not to call for a replacement.
Zimbabwe face England at Trent Bridge on 26 June in the opening game of the NatWest Series.
