Tour match, Canterbury, final day: South Africa 325-4 dec & 243-7 dec. beat Kent 235 & 232 by 101 runsPaul Adams claimed stunning figures of 9-79 to spin South Africa to victory over Kent at Canterbury.
Paul Adams was Kent's destroyer on Saturday |
The slow left-arm chinaman bowler was far too canny for the county side, claiming every single wicket to fall except Ed Smith's.
Smith celebrated his elevation to England's Test squad for the next match against South Africa at Trent Bridge on 14 August with a cameo innings of 27 off 21 balls at a stage when the victory target of 334 was not totally out of the question.
After he was out, caught and bowled by the other slow bowler Robin Peterson, survival was strictly the order of the day for Kent.
But, Alex Loudon exlcuded, the remaining batsmen were all at sea against Adams who found plenty of turn on a dry, dusty track.
Loudon finished with 30 not out, but numbers six to 11 all fell for single figures scores to the brilliant spinner.
It was the ideal preparation for Adams ahead of the Trent Bridge Test.
