Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon hopes their Twenty20 expulsion will not have a lasting negative impact on ineligible spinner Azeem Rafiq. The 17-year-old was unqualified to play in the competition yet featured against Nottinghamshire in the group stage. "It is a such a shame for Azeem," Moxon told BBC Radio Leeds. "He's a young lad who has come through both ours and England's system and it's a real shame this has happened and that he can't play county cricket for us." Rafiq holds a Pakistan passport but has a permit to live and work in England and has lived in Barnsley for the majority of his life. He captained England at under-15 level, but his future is now in major doubt. Yorkshire are yet to decide if they will appeal against their expulsion on Monday at Taunton.
