McGrath settled his contract dispute earlier this month |
Yorkshire have appointed batsman Anthony McGrath, who captained the county in 2003, as vice-captain under new skipper Darren Gough. McGrath had spent much of the winter in a contract dispute with the club, but the matter was resolved in early March.
"I thought long and hard about the position and how it might be received by everyone at the club, with everything that has gone on," he said.
"But I said I would be honoured to accept the role."
The 31-year-old former England international, who played four Tests in 2003, had said that "the atmosphere in the dressing-room was becoming unbearable" last season.
But he appeared to have been convinced to stay following the recent installation of Gough as skipper and Martyn Moxon as director of professional cricket.
"Having a fired-up Anthony McGrath as vice-captain will go down very well in the dressing room," Moxon added.
"Although Darren is keen to play in every match, there will be times when we will need cover for him and Anthony has the necessary experience for this role."
