Moxon named new Yorkshire chief
Martyn Moxon
Moxon has been linked with a return to former county Yorkshire
Yorkshire have confirmed former captain Martyn Moxon as the new director of cricket at Headingley.

Moxon returns to the white rose county after resigning from his position as head coach at Durham last week.

Barnsley-born Moxon, who played for his home county from 1981-97, served as Yorkshire's director of coaching until leaving for Durham in 2001.

He said: "I feel it is now time to move on. When the opportunity came up to join Yorkshire I jumped at it."

Moxon, who lives in Wetherby, north Yorkshire, added: "The long journey to Chester-le-Street each day was becoming less enjoyable.

"I cannot wait to get started in my new role. There's so much good news around Headingley Carnegie right now and it will be fantastic to be part of the team at Yorkshire." Yorkshire reportedly tried to lure the 46-year-old back three years ago but he opted to stay with Durham.

The signing marks the third major announcement in a fortnight, after Darren Gough returned as captain and Anthony McGrath resolved his row with the club and decided to stay.

Moxon impressed during his time at Durham, overseeing the county's promotion to the first division of the County Championship and keeping them there.

As a player he scored 18,973 first-class runs in a career that included 10 Test matches.

His top score for England was 99 against New Zealand in Auckland.

Meanwhile, academy director, Ian Dews has been promoted to the position of director of cricket operations.
