Lehmann warned by Yorkshire
Darren Lehmann
Lehmann did not appeal against his punishment
Yorkshire have given former skipper Darren Lehmann a verbal warning following his recent suspension for making racial remarks.

The Australian was given a five-match ban by International Cricket Council match referee Clive Lloyd after a one-day international against Sri Lanka in Adelaide.

There is no place for racist attitudes, behaviour or language in cricket or in Yorkshire Cricket Club

Colin Graves

The county insists the matter had nothing to do with the decision to replace him as captain Anthony McGrath.

But chief executive Colin Graves said: "We condemn Darren's language and behaviour, for which there can never be a satisfactory excuse or explanation."

He added: "We welcome all Asian and black players within the county and are working to increase the opportunities for them to play for Yorkshire at all levels.

"But we have considered the matter in the context of Darren's service to Yorkshire over the last three years, his excellent record for good conduct and his personal qualities.

"We have concluded that his position within the club is unaffected by the incident."

Lehmann has scored more than 4,000 first-class runs for Yorkshire over the past three seasons, including 12 centuries.

He was a key figure in their Championship-winning side in 2001, but missed a large part of last season, when they were relegated to Division Two, because of international commitments.

Lehmann offered an apology following his disciplinary hearing earlier this week.

"I accept the penalty handed down and would like to say once again how regretful I am," he commented.

"I meant no offence by my comments and again would like to apologise for making them.
