Yorkshire dilemma over Gough deal
Darren Gough bowling against Lancashire
Financial constraints may affect Gough's contract
Yorkshire will not offer England fast bowler Darren Gough a full-time contract for next summer, according to reports.

The 32-year-old is expected to be offered a payment by appearance deal when he meets club officials in the next few weeks.

Gough has not been given one of the new 12-month central contracts by the England and Wales Cricket Board because of continuing concerns about his fitness following three operations on his left knee.

And the Daily Telegraph says Yorkshire cannot afford his basic wage, thought to be around 60,000 a year.

The club is facing a severe financial crisis, with members recently voting to double the overdraft facility to 10m.

Teammates Craig White and Richard Blakey are expected to be offered new full-time deals by Yorkshire, although White has also had his fair share of injuries.

But the club is unwilling to do the same for Gough, who is working on his fitness at Lilleshall..

"We cannot afford to gamble on his fitness given our financial situation," the newspaper quoted chief executive Colin Graves as saying.

Barnsley-born Gough made his debut for Yorkshire in 1989 and quickly established himself as a favourite among supporters.

But he only made two Championship appearances last summer and has barely been seen in a Yorkshire sweater this season because of his injury problems.

There was speculation last year that he wanted to move closer to his home in Buckinghamshire.

But he decided to honour the remaining year of his contract, saying "I've never wavered from the desire that I want to end my playing days at Yorkshire."
