| Monday, 12 August, 2002, 16:20 GMT 17:20 UK Yorkshire chairman resigns ![]() The storm clouds are gathering at Headingley Yorkshire chairman Keith Moss stood down on Monday as the club took steps to ward off the threat of bankruptcy. Following a meeting at Headingley, chief executive Chris Hassell revealed the club have been given approval in principle for an overdraft extension of 5m by bankers at HSBC. That figure exceeds the current limit set by club rules, but an EGM has been called for 29 August and members have been warned to vote through the change. Failure to allow greater borrowing could lead the already financially-troubled club into bankruptcy. Streamlined A four-man oversteering group has been appointed as a condition laid down by the bank. This new group consists of president Robin Smith, Geoff Cope, Colin Graves - the chairman of Costcutter supermarkets - and one other accountant yet to be appointed. The changes are a consequence of the club over-spending by 2m on ground redevelopments. There were rumours the current players would not get paid until the end of the season. Other county clubs have streamlined their operations but Yorkshire's progress has been slow. |
