Worcestershire County Cricket club say overgrown trees along the banks of the River Severn are obscuring the famous view from their New Road ground.

Chief executive Mark Newton told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "We have some great pictures from 10 years ago when you can see the whole of the Cathedral.

"But the trees keep growing and we keep asking if they can be trimmed but nobody seems to want to do so."

Newton admits the club do not know who would be able to trim the trees.

"We don't actually know who is ultimately responsible as the trees are not on our land," he added.

"We have been to the city council, a couple of years ago but didn't get any really positive answers from that.

"I guess in these austere times they are not top of the agenda."

Worcester city council told BBC Hereford and Worcester they will only cut back the trees if they are dangerous or diseased.
