Whelan has taken 20 wickets in nine first-class matches this season |
Worcestershire fast bowler Chris Whelan has signed a new two-year contract that will keep him at New Road until the end of the 2011 season. The 23-year-old, who joined the county from Middlesex in 2008, had been a target for Division Two side Kent. "I have really settled in Worcester and I have enjoyed my cricket since moving here," said Whelan. "Everybody attached to the club has been terrific in making me feel like this is where I want to be playing." Director of cricket Steve Rhodes added: "Under the guidance of Matt Mason and our other senior bowlers, Chris has really developed this year, particularly in the one-day format. "He has the ability to vary his bowling and is capable of bowling some really quick deliveries. "He is still young and certainly has the ability to become a top-line bowler."
