Coach Steve Rhodes called his players in for extra weekend training |
Struggling Worcestershire may play some of their out of form first-team batsmen in a Second XI game this week. Daryl Mitchell, Ben Smith and Moeen Ali could be included in the team to play Warwickshire next Tuesday (18 August). "They know they are under pressure, so there might be a few getting some practice in at Kidderminster," said director of cricket Steve Rhodes. Mitchell and Smith are yet to pass 500 runs in the Championship in 2009, while Moeen has struggled in recent games. Worcestershire, bottom of the County Championship without a win all season, are without a first-team game until Sunday (23 August) when they play Essex in the Pro40 at Colchester. Meanwhile Worcestershire's Second XI beat Leicestershire by seven wickets this week. Matt Pardoe, who carried his bat for an unbeaten 108 out of 232, was one of seven players from the county's academy.
