Mishra has made a promising start to his international career |
India leg-spinner Amit Mishra has emerged as a candidate to replace Ashley Noffke as Worcestershire's overseas player. The 26-year-old could take over when Noffke leaves New Road in mid-August. "Amit Mishra is certainly on a list of players that we are talking to," said chief executive Mark Newton. "But I must stress he is one of many players we are talking to - if you can get a work permit through in a month then you have done extremely well." The county season does not finish until 27 September, so any signing would play at least five matches for the club. | 606: DEBATE |
Mishra has taken 20 wickets in five Test appearances for India and played twice against England last winter. Teammate Zaheer Khan is also in the frame to replace Noffke, having enjoyed a highly successful spell with Worcestershire in 2006. Earlier this week, Newton confirmed that Zaheer and captain Vikram Solanki were still in contact but that there had not been "anything formal" from the club for the left-arm paceman.
