Zaheer took 5-29 against New Zealand in December 2002 |
India seamer Zaheer Khan is hopeful he will return to Worcestershire after his successful spell at New Road. The left-armer was signed to replace Australian Nathan Bracken and has taken 69 wickets in 13 Division Two matches.
He has been overlooked by India since February but the team is due to tour England next summer which would prevent an immediate return to Worcestershire.
"I hope India recall me very soon," he said. "If I can't be at Worcester next year then hopefully in the future."
Zaheer, who also played for Surrey, made his Test debut in 2000 but played the last of his 42 Tests in February and has failed to command a regular place.
This season for Worcester he has taken five wickets in an innings five times, 10 wickets in a match twice and has a best of 9-138 against Essex.
"I've really enjoyed this season," he said. "The dressing room has been great and I have made a lot of new friends.
"The ground here is also very beautiful and hopefully I can come back and play for the side in Division One of the County Championship.
"I've not really had any discussions with the club so far and am just focusing on finishing the season on a good note."
