Fernando will bolster Worcestershire attack |
Worcestershire have signed Sri Lankan paceman Dilhara Fernando as the club's overseas player until the winter. The 29-year-old will fly in on Friday to be available for the Pro40 match against Hampshire Hawks on Saturday. He replaces seamer Imran Arif, who is de-registered to make room, as the Bears attempt to cover for the injured Simon Jones, Kabir Ali and Matt Mason. "I've been looking for a quality replacement and we're about there," said director of cricket Steve Rhodes. | 606: DEBATE | "The Sri Lankan Cricket Board has been very helpful as they want Dilhara to play some cricket rather than rest. "He's obviously a quality player who can bowl with good speed - he's very tall and gets a lot of bounce, which should be good at New Road as the tall bowlers tend to get a bit out of it. "We welcome his experience at a crucial part of the season as our attack is a little bit depleted."
