Steve Rhodes felt the Royals were robbed of points |
Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes ripped into the umpires after the Pro 40 game against Sussex at Horsham was controversially abandoned. The home side were 52-2, needing 245, and behind on the Duckworth Lewis method when the umpires took the players off as light rain fell. The decision was made with just three more balls needed to get a result. "They got it wrong, it was raining the same at the start of the over as when they went off," Rhodes said. "They normally wait until the end of the over and then go off," he told BBC Hereford & Worcester. The umpires did bring the players back on, but sent them back to the pavilion as it began to rain again and Rhodes was not happy with his opposite number Mark Robinson. "That was another farcical situation, as it was raining the same as when we came off, and I was disappointed to see the Sussex coach on the field shouting at the umpire that it was raining." Solanki hit a flowing 69, but it was Daryll Mitchell with 53 and Gareth Batty with 42 not out who helped take the Royals from 113-5 to 244-9. Worcestershire's next game is against Derbyshire in the County Championship starting at New Road on Wednesday. There will be ball by ball commentary on the whole game on BBC Hereford and Worcester on 738 am and at bbc.co.uk/herefordandworcester.
