Doug Bollinger has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence Down Under |
Former Worcestershire paceman Doug Bollinger has been called up for Test match duty by Australia. His 45 wickets in seven Pura Cup games for New South Wales have earned him a call to replace injured Ben Hilfenhaus for the tour of the West Indies in May. Bollinger did not uncork his best form in 2007, taking just 16 first-class wickets at an average of over 44. But he still caught the selectors' eye, being picked for Aussie 'A' team duty which booked him an early return home. And the left-armer has gone from strength to strength this winter, contributing a string of match-winning performances which contributed to New South Wales' Pura Cup victory. Sadly for 26-year-old Bollinger, he missed the last two games with a foot injury, being sidelined for last month's final at the SCG. And he must undergo a pre-tour fitness test before he is sure of being on the flight to the Caribbean.
