Worcs expect recovery from flood
New Road in the summer of 2007
New Road was hit by heavy flooding last summer
Worcestershire chief executive Mark Newton is hopeful that the latest floods will not affect their preparations for the new season.

No cricket was played at New Road last summer after 13 June - and the ground is now under water again.

"This actually won't make much difference if it doesn't hang around," Newton told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"If it does, or we get flooding in February or March then that's when it starts to become a problem."

Newton added: "We have the team back on 17 March when we'll be using the practice areas, but for the moment we're not over concerned.

"We've had 138 floods now, I think, since 1899, so although the last 12 to 16 months have been pretty bad it's no different to what it was in the 1960s, the 1940s and the 1920s before that."
