Giles took over as Warwickshire director of cricket in 2007
Warwickshire's director of cricket Ashley Giles says it is vital the club spends money on new players.
The Bears are flying high in limited-overs cricket but appear odds-on for relegation in the County Championship after six defeats in seven games.
Giles told BBC WM: "I think we've got a nice club, we've got nice facilities, and we are going to have a fantastic new stadium.
"But to bring the big guns to the club, they're obviously going to cost money."
Giles made his impassioned comments after watching Stuart Broad rout his team in the second innings of the Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Edgbaston.
Broad claimed 8-52 as the Bears were dismissed for 100, their seventh total of fewer than 150 in 21 completed Championship innings this season.
Giles said: "I think he bowled well, but by bowling well, I mean he ran up and put it on a length.
"I thought first innings, by his standards, he bowled averagely. For the Test bowler he is I thought he bowled too short, this innings he got it right.
"But it wasn't a fantastic piece of bowling by a Test bowler. It was challenging but nothing more, and the wicket's good, overhead conditions were good, and that's what makes it even more disappointing that we rolled over.
"I think a word I would use is embarrassing. I think it's a poor performance, and it's not the first time this year with the bat. And it's got to stop.
"We can keep hiding behind our one-day performances, which have been very good, statistically we are the best one-day side in the country. But this isn't good enough."
Warwickshire's batting - a strength in recent seasons - has been weakened this year by the regular absence of Jonathan Trott as well as Ian Bell on international duty.
We need to invest in guys who can fill those holes that Trott and Bell leave. If there aren't guys here who can do that, we have to look outside to fill those gaps

Giles said: "The Trott and Bell factor is not a small one. Maybe we've been hiding behind that too much. We saw it coming that we were going to miss those two guys. We probably didn't see that the rest of the guys would be in such poor form, but they have to take responsibility.
"There's a lot of experience in that batting line-up and ultimately they have to take responsibility for it, as we all do. I'm responsible for managing them and the team, they're responsible as professional cricketers, and at the moment, in four-day cricket, we're not simply getting that right.
"I've said it before, for me we need to invest in guys who can fill those holes that Trott and Bell leave. If there aren't guys here who can do that, we have to look outside to fill those gaps.
"We've known for a while we need to invest further in our side if it is to have the success that the club wants. This has been another reminder."
