Martin could be available straight after the third Test at Trent Bridge |
New Zealand paceman Chris Martin has signed for Warwickshire for the rest of the 2008 season. The 33-year old is available after the final Test at Trent Bridge, as he has been left out of the one-day squad. The Bears director of cricket Ashley Giles has brought in Martin to replace Monde Zondeki who will join the South African squad on their English tour. Martin also fills the vacancy for the Twenty20, after the return of Sanath Jayasuriya to the Sri Lanka fold. "Obviously we were after an attacking top order batsman," said Giles. "And I don't think Chris will be getting us too many runs. "But opportunities were limited in terms of who was available after the Jayasuriya incident and getting Chris for the whole period will be good for the team." Giles has given up on a bid to sign young Aussie batsman Luke Pomersbach as he was not granted a work permit.
