Yardy has scored over 4,000 first-class runs for Sussex |
Sussex have appointed all-rounder Michael Yardy as vice-captain for the 2007 season as they prepare to defend their County Championship title. Yardy, 26, recently skippered England A on their tour of Bangladesh.
"This opportunity reflects an outstanding report from Bangladesh," Sussex captain Chris Adams said.
"It is understood that Michael handled the responsibilities of captaincy on and off the field in a mature fashion and to a degree of great success."
Yardy has had a successful last 12 months, having helped Sussex win the Championship for the second time in four years, while they also won the C&G Trophy last season.
He made his England one-day debut in a Twenty20 international against Pakistan at Bristol in August, and has since won five full ODI caps, featuring in the Champions Trophy in October.
Also in October, he signed a contract extension which will keep him at Hove until after the 2009 season.
