Yardy is now a key member of Sussex's successful line-up |
England all-rounder Michael Yardy has signed a new contract with Sussex which will run to the end of the 2009 season. The 25-year-old is currently playing in the Champions Trophy in India after helping Sussex win the Championship for the second time in four years.
"Michael is a product of everything that is good in Sussex cricket.
"He is an excellent example of the rewards that can be gained from hard work and dedication," said team manager Mark Robinson.
"Michael played first team cricket, was left out, went into the second team, and decided he was going to move his game to a different level.
"He has a brilliant ability to use setbacks as a positive learning experience."
Yardy made his England debut in a Twenty20 international against Pakistan at Bristol in August and now has his sights set on a place in the squad for next year's World Cup.
Before then he will spend time with the National Academy squad in Perth, one of 14 players on stand-by as cover for the Ashes series against Australia.
