Symonds played in the Indian Premier League for Deccan Chargers
Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds hopes his knowledge of Twenty20 cricket can help Surrey in this summer's Friends Provident t20 campaign.
The 34-year-old has played 77 Twenty20 matches during his career.
He told BBC London 94.9: "I've played quite a lot of Twenty20 cricket now and I'm quite experienced at it.
"I've got a pretty good plan in my head as how to win games of Twenty20. I want to help a young team with being able to break a game down and win it."
Symonds, who has previously had spells with Kent, Lancashire and Gloucestershire, has played 26 Tests, 198 one-day internationals and 14 Twenty20 internationals for Australia.
But, after playing for the Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League, Symonds said he was excited about the prospect of appearing for Surrey.
"This [The Oval] is probably my favourite ground in England to play on," he said.
"That came into the equation when Surrey asked me to come and play, it was a real selling point for me.
"Having seen the ground I'm now looking forward to going out and having a game of cricket."
Surrey won two of their 10 Twenty20 Cup games last season to finish second from bottom of the South Division.
But Symonds is looking forward to working with the young Surrey team and believes they have the credentials to do well.
"Chris [Adams, cricket manager] was very enthusiastic about the age and fitness of the side," he said.
"Twenty20 is a game where fielding and fitness are big part of it.
"I think those are two components to successful sides."
