Gilchrist played 96 Tests and 287 one-day internationals for Australia |
Former Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist has said he is delighted to be spearheading Middlesex's 2010 Twenty20 campaign. The 38-year-old is contracted to play five matches and is very happy to be back at Lord's. He told BBC London 94.9: "It was a very easy decision. It felt comfortable because I played in Middlesex in the County League as a 17-year-old. "I used to go to Lord's and watch whoever was out on the nursery ground." He added: "I was totally engrossed with everything about Middlesex. "It was an outstanding experience for me as a youngster." He is also looking forward to the challenge of Twenty20 cricket. "Two years ago, Middlesex did very well in this format but last year not so good. "That's probably indicative of this type of cricket," he continued. "It's going to be a great tournament this year with the inclusion of some very high-profile international cricketers," he said. However, the veteran batsman stressed that focus should not just be on the international players. He said: "It's the local talent that makes it intriguing. "My stay here is short in comparison to the whole tournament. I would just love to have an impact of some sort. "I'm looking forward to being able to leave something behind," he said.
