Surrey hunting more new signings

Gus Mackay
Mackay joined Surrey from Sussex

Surrey managing director Gus Mackay says the club is working to sign another three players.

Worcestershire duo Steven Davies and Gareth Batty have already agreed moves to The Oval.

Mackay told BBC London 94.9: "We've got two in and we're working on an overseas player now.

"The other two will hopefully come in the coming months, if not then it may be while we wait for people as they come along."

Mackay said there were still positives to take from his first year at the club despite Surrey only finishing seventh in County Championship Division Two.

He said: "I think year zero only came about a few weeks ago when we realised there was more to do than we initially anticipated.

"Where we are today is, results wise, not in an ideal position particularly in the Championship or in one-day cricket but we now have a squad that we know about. That is, first and foremost, the most important thing.

"We also know the type of players that we need so our recruitment is now very focused on the exact players we need to bring in to mould with the exceptional talent we already have in the squad.

"What I'd like to put on record is that whoever we do sign in this new campaign and this new era will be quality because we want to make sure we learn from the past and that we bring in players that fit what we need as a person and the right individual to work with the existing team but, also, the skill level and what they bring to the party.

"We've got two in the bag, we're working very hard on an overseas player, who I hope can be with us for the duration, and then, potentially, another two. Those five key spine players may take two years to bring in."
