Fresh doubts over Rees comeback

Tom Rees
Rees's return to the England fold may still be some way off

Tom Rees' hopes of being involved in England's autumn Tests are getting slimmer after his comeback from an injured right shoulder stalled.

The Wasps captain suffered the injury in April and has, according to the club, reached "a plateau in his rehabilitation," and may need surgery.

The 25-year-old flanker is due to see a specialist next week when a decision on how to proceed will be taken.

Rees won the first of his 15 caps in 2007 but has been plagued by injury.

He was in the squads for the 2008 and 2009 Six Nations tournaments, but missed the 2009 championship after tearing a medial ligament in his knee.

After two months out, he returned for the end of the domestic season but injured his shoulder playing against Bristol, ruling him out of contention for both England and the British and Irish Lions touring parties.
