Rashid has already made a big impact in his short career in first-class cricket
Surrey coach Chris Adams has urged England to give Adil Rashid the chance to prove himself ahead of the Ashes.
The Yorkshire man is part of England's squad in the West Indies and Adams would like to see him selected to play.
"It's time for a change. I would pick Rashid, I think he presents England with an exciting option ahead of the Ashes," Adams told BBC London 94.9.
Rashid, 20, showed his potential in 2008, finishing as the leading English spinner with 63 first-class wickets.
And Adams believes the time is right for Rashid to show he could have an impact against Australia when the Ashes begins in July.
"He is a leg-spinner first and foremost, he can turn the ball, quite considerably, both ways," he added.
"He's starting to know his game, he can bat and he's a terrific fielder. He is an all-round cricketer.
"He's the type of cricketer that, moving forward, we want to see in an England shirt.
"I think it's a great time, a great opportunity to have a look at this kid in a Test environment."
After England's humiliating innings defeat in the first Test in the West Indies, Adams says England's priority must be to build for the future rather than save face in the Caribbean.
Now is the time to answer some questions, and if that means we don't get the results in the next few Tests so be it

"There are very, very clear signs for me that now is the time for change, they have nothing to lose," insisted Adams.
"The last thing I want to see is an England team trying to restore some pride by winning the next two Test matches.
"I genuinely believe that they won't gain anything from trying to do that solely as their goal, when they have a big summer ahead.
"We need to know if Owais Shah is good enough at this level. We know Graeme Swann to a certain extent, we've seen a little bit from him. We know what he can deliver, we know that type of cricketer he is.
"I think now is the time to say we need to answer some questions first and foremost, and if that means we don't get the results in the next few Tests so be it."
