Trescothick's presence could help Somerset to a good start |
England's Marcus Trescothick has made himself available for Somerset at the start of the county season. Opener Trescothick has not played since flying home from England's tour to India for undisclosed personal reasons.
But he is likely to appear in two one-day warm-up games before Somerset's opening Championship fixture against Gloucestershire at Bristol on 18 April.
If all goes well, he could then be in line to return to the England team for the home Tests against Sri Lanka.
Trescothick's decision to return home early from the tour to India was a major blow to England's chances of success.
But a patched-up side managed to achieve a highly creditable 1-1 draw in the Test series by winning the final game in Mumbai.
It has been a different story in the one-day series, however, with Trescothick's experience badly missed at the top of the order.
Somerset, meanwhile, are expecting to be without former England seam bowler Richard Johnson for the start of the season.
He suffered the latest in a long line of injuries during a trip to South Africa, and the results of a scan on his knee are still being assessed.
