Cricket Scotland has announced an annual profit of more than £50,000. The governing body reported a pre-tax surplus of £57,481 in the year to December 2008, compared with £40,121 in the previous year. More than £500,000 was spent on training young cricketers, a 30% increase on the year before. Turnover was down slightly to about £1.5m. Cricket Scotland chief executive Roddy Smith said it introduced 18,000 children to the sport last year. "We now have a total of 16 people working on community development programmes, including our new SVQ development apprentices," Smith said. "And we were grateful last week that our efforts were recognised by the International Cricket Council, whose European award for best overall development programme came our way."
