John Blain expects Scotland to play well in the Twenty20 World Cup |
Scottish seamer John Blain has backed his side to give a strong account of themselves at the inaugural Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa. The 28-year-old has played in two World Cups, and his side are a leading team among the ICC associate nations.
He said: "We're more confident in this competition. We have a decent record in this length of game."
Scotland start off against Pakistan on 12 September and then face a tough match against India the following day.
Blain said: "We've played against the Indians, and they're a great batting side. But Pakistan, with all due respect, can be volatile-and it depends which side of the bed they get out of. The Pakistan match has to be a major target for us."
The veteran paceman once considered a career in football and signed schoolboy forms for Hibernian before moving to Falkirk.
However, a preference for cricket saw him move south of the border and he has played for both Northamptonshire and Yorkshire.
Blain does not regret his decision: "I enjoyed cricket more than football. I've travelled the world, played in two World Cups and now a Twenty20 World Cup.
"I don't think I'd have had those chances with football."
