Nottinghamshire off-spinner Graeme Swann says he will never forget taking the final Australian wicket in England's Ashes triumph.

Swann had Mike Hussey caught at short-leg to clinch victory at The Oval in August and seal a 2-1 series win.

"The Ashes was phenomenal," Swann, 30, told BBC Radio Nottingham. "It was the best seven weeks of my life.

"A lot of people say you can't dwell on the past, but I'm happy to look back while we're not playing."

The Ashes victory was a culmination of a remarkable 12 months for Swann.

He made his Test debut against India in Chennai last December, taking two wickets in his first over,

And a successful tour of the West Indies confirmed him as England's first-choice spinner in all forms of the game.

Swann went wicketless in the drawn first Test of the Ashes series at Cardiff, but finished with 14 scalps as England reclaimed the urn they lost in Australia two years earlier.

"As a kid I grew up hoping that I could play in the Ashes and maybe take the wicket that won it," he added.

"All of a sudden, I was at the end of my run-up thinking: 'I could win the Ashes here'. And then I did.

"The defeat in the one-day series took the gloss off the Ashes win for some but not for me."
