Read combines batting and wicketkeeping duties with captaincy |
Nottinghamshire captain Chris Read is convinced his side can go all the way in this year's Twenty20 competition. "We've got the personnel and potential to be a winning side," Read told BBC Radio Nottingham. "But we need to put that into performances and we need to get off to a good start." Notts begin their Twenty20 campaign on Monday when they entertain last season's county champions Durham at Trent Bridge. And wicketkeeper Read says the newest form of cricket is a big pull for players as well as fans. "It's still a new and exciting form of the game," Read said. "Playing in front of a full house at Trent Bridge is a special feeling and that is what we all want to do. "There is nothing worse than failing to perform in front of a good crowd." Director of cricket Mick Newell was also positive about his side's chances but said it was very difficult to pick out strong favourites. "In our group from a cricket point of view you would look at Lancashire and Durham as being the best two sides," Newell said. "But that's not to write off Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. "Lancashire and Durham you would think - given their abilities in all forms of the game - should be right up there. "But I wouldn't write anybody off and anybody can beat anybody."
