Patel has come through the academy ranks at Trent Bridge |
Nottinghamshire all-rounder Samit Patel has agreed a contract extension which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2010 season. Director of cricket Mick Newell told the club website: "Samit has taken huge strides and this contract rewards him for his standing in the team. "He has matured as a person and a player and he has serious ambitions to play Test cricket for England." The 23-year-old broke into England's one-day side earlier this summer. He is in the 15-man squad which will compete the Stanford Super Series in Antigua later this month, and then tour India in November. | It has been a good year for me and for the team | Patel was a key player in the one-day series win against South Africa in August, winning the man-of-the-match award in the third one-day international at The Oval after taking 5-41 with his left-arm spin and making 31 with the bat. He also topped Nottinghamshire's County Championship batting averages, averaging 53.88, as they just missed out on the title. Patel said: "I'm very happy at Notts and even though my previous deal didn't expire until 2009, I was keen to agree an extension. "It has been a good year for me and for the team and I'm confident that we will be able to challenge for honours next season."
