Consistency is the key - Newell

Mick Newell
Newell is confident that Notts can challenge again next summer

Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell knows his team must be more consistent if they are to challenge for titles again next season.

Notts came close to winning both the County Championship and the Pro 40, only to lose on the final day of each.

"We've established ourselves this year at second place and if you'd have offered me this in April I'd have taken it," he told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"We're looking for a bit of consistency - we've been very up and down."

We know where the deficiencies in the team have been this year, and we'll look to address them for next year

He added: "Ultimately it's disappointing when you are on top of competitions not to quite close them out, but that's something we've got to think about over the winter and assess for next season."

And Newell is confident his coaching staff will be able to iron out the weaknesses in the Notts side.

"We know where the deficiencies in the team have been this year, and we'll look to address them for next year."
