Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell has given Indian batting star VVS Laxman until Friday to decide whether he will move to Trent Bridge.

Laxman agreed to sign until the end of the season, replacing Adam Voges, who will return to Australia in mid-August.

But the Indian Cricket Board says Laxman cannot join Notts because of the county's Indian Cricket League players.

Newell told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I've spoken to two players and we need to contact them again if he doesn't come."

Newell added: "I'd like to know by this Friday."

We thought we had permission from the BCCI...but now they want to question the whole deal.

The BCCI are refusing to sanction Laxman's move because the Notts squad includes players who performed in last year's controversial Indian Cricket League.

Newell said: "We thought we'd done a deal with VVS, and we thought we had permission from the BCCI, but somebody's spotted something and now they want to question the whole deal."

Newell confirmed that the two other players the club has spoken to would both like to come to Trent Bridge to fill the role vacated by Voges.
