Peters has agreed to stay with Northants until at least the end of 2012 |
Opening batsman Stephen Peters has been named as Northamptonshire's player of the year. The 31-year-old scored 1,296 County Championship runs - the only Northants player to pass the 1,000 mark in the competition this summer. "I know it always helps when you're scoring a few but it's been one of my most enjoyable seasons," Peters said. He added: "I am pretty settled here and I hope to be playing for Northamptonshire for a lot longer." The opener, who recently signed a new two-year contract with Northants, continued: "Some of the younger guys have come into the team this year and brought a real buzz to the dressing room. I'm really enjoying that." Elsewhere, batsman Rob Newton - who scored his maiden first-class century in the final match of the season against Leicestershire - was named the club's top young player, while Rob Keogh took the academy award.
