Northants batsman David Sales targets summer comeback

Sales aims to resume his Northants career in April

Northants batsman David Sales has set his sights on a comeback this season after missing the entire 2009 campaign with a knee injury.

Sales, 32, underwent reconstructive surgery on a long-standing ligament problem last year and is now working towards a return to the game.

"It's been a long road back but my knee is progressing nicely now," said Sales.

"I'm getting strong in my legs so I can't wait to be fully fit and ready for the new season."

Sales, who stood down as Northants captain in 2008, has scored more than 10,000 first-class runs for the club and is contracted to stay at Wantage Road until the end of the 2012 season.

"David is progressing well through each stage of his recovery and I'm delighted how well his rehabilitation is moving forward," said head coach David Capel.

"He's now batting three times a week and undergoing rigorous fitness work which involves training five days a week."

Northants take the field for the first time in 2010 with a three-day friendly against Oxford UCCE starting on 3 April.
