Dublin-born Eoin Morgan made his first-class debut for Middlesex in 2006 |
Middlesex are keen to hang onto Eoin Morgan despite an approach from Warwickshire for the England batsman. The 23-year-old Ireland-born Morgan's contract will run out this year after completing five seasons at Lord's. A Middlesex spokesman said: "I can confirm that we have been contacted by Warwickshire about the possibility of signing Eoin Morgan. "But I have been in contact with cricket director Angus Fraser and he is very keen that Eoin stays at the club." Having already played 23 one-day internationals for his native Ireland, including the 2007 World Cup, the Dubliner switched to England duty in 2009. He has now gone on to make 24 further one-day international for his adopted country, playing in all five games in this summer's series against Australia, hitting 103 not out in the first game at The Rose Bowl last month. He has now also played in 12 Twenty20 internationals for England and made his Test debut in May, playing in both games against Bangladesh. If he fails to sign a new contract with Middlesex, he is permitted to talk to another county a month before his current deal expires at the end of the season. Morgan has made 1,869 first-class runs for Middlesex in 38 matches at an average of 32.78. In one-day cricket, he has hit 1,503 runs in 52 matches at 35.78 and he has also hit 864 runs in Twenty20 cricket for his county.
